Tristan Wade

Congratulations to DeepStacks Live lead instructor Tristan Wade on his first career WSOP Bracelet win.

It’s been a while since I’ve played poker outside of the home game.  Since I took a 4th place finish at the $120 buy-in Venetian in Las Vegas during Brett’s bachelor party, I haven’t hit the tables at all.  Some of the reasons have been financial.  I just can’t really afford to go play poker these days.  But honestly, most of the reason has been a loss of excitement and desire, as I find myself losing the capability to connect to the game regularly.

I find myself having a more difficult time these days watching poker on television or even reading about it online.  I’ll tune in when people that I know are doing well in an event, like a friend of mine Tristan Wade, who just won his first WSOP Bracelet.  I first met Tristan at the World Series of Poker last year when he’d made a deep run in the Main Event. What to watch today at the WSOP – Jason Mercier highlights the $5k PLO

June 22nd, 2011 No comments

Jason Mercier ran like...well...Jason Mercier and is near the tops of the chip counts with 15 players left in the $5k PLO

Only one bracelet was awarded yesterday as Mark Schmid overcame the 3,144 player field to take home the Event #34 championship, shipping $488,283 in first place prize money and the jewelry.  The online player known as “pimpindonks” has roughly $1 million in online tournament earnings, and now has a prize even better than one of those Gold Jerseys (which have decreased significantly in value as we’re now on day 67 without hearing a word from Full Tilt Poker about where our deposits are – another post…another time).  Anyhow, I know little about Schmid other than this is his first bracelet, so congrats to him.

There will be 5 events in action today, and one in particular will continue to be a doozy.  Here’s what to watch for today: Read more…

What to watch today at the WSOP – Mike Sexton looks for a repeat

"The Poker Ambassador" Mike Sexton looks to add another WSOP Bracelet in an event that he won 22 years ago

Yesterday’s action at the WSOP had 6 events running simultaneously, which has become the norm these days in the Rio.  One tournament wrapped up as the final table of Event #24, the $5,000 NLHE Shootout came to a close.  A bracelet was awarded to Mark Radoja who collected 436,568 reasons to be happy.  I collected a reason to yawn.  It was a mostly uninteresting story about some guy who plays the WSOP every year since 2007, but had his biggest score ever in this thing, winning his first career bracelet, yadda yadda yadda.  Last year, he finished 3rd in the $5k NLHE 6-max event for more than $200k, but he finally climbed the mountain to poker greatness.  Again…yawn.

So here’s what’s going on and what I think is interesting in the events that will transpire today: Read more…
